Atiku Abubakar denied being involved in corruption when he was in the Nigerian Customs Service

 The PDP presidential candidate also insisted his wife is not involved in corruption Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate has dismissed allegation that he used his position in the Nigerian Customs Service to perpetrate acts of corruption.

 (NAN) reported that the custom allegation followed the controversial importation of 53 suit cases into the country in 1984 by a first class traditional ruler in the North.

Why Atiku wasn't President under me - Obasanjo.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed why he never declared former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as acting President when he was in power.

Obasanjo explained that he didn’t declare Abubakar acting president because he didn’t have to travel out of the country for 104 days like President Muhammadu Buhari did when he went to London for a medical vacation.

ASUU STRIKE : Update as FG meets major demand.

ASUU, has provided update on the ongoing strike as the Federal Government, yesterday, met one of its major demands.


This is as the union has received the certificate of operation for Nigerian University Pension Management Company, NUPEMCO, from the National Pension Commission.

The refusal of the regulatory agency to approve the teachers’ union’s pension commission for operation has been one of the major issues in the dispute between ASUU and the Federal Government.


However, the National Pension Council, the regulatory agency for the country’s pension companies, granted the union the certificate of operation on Monday.

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a short message sent across to members of the union, yesterday, said ASUU received the certificate at about 11:20 a.m.

ASUU STRIKE: Lecturers Reveals Why Strike Is Still On, Warns Buhari Govt.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has challenged the federal government to desist from distorting facts about funds released to the union.

Speaking with The Nation over the weekend, the President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the comment credited to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige that N163 billion was released to the Union was a distortion of facts.

He disclosed that the N163 billion mentioned by Ngige was released to the Universities by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, to meet specific needs in the universities and not the revitalization fund being demanded by the unions.

Gonzalo Higuain shows behavioural class during debut.

The Blues  were left stunned after witnessing Gonzalo Higuain turn down the chance to score on his debut.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the first half against Sheffield Wednesday after Cesar Azpilicueta was hacked down by Sam Hutchinson.

After Andre Marriner pointed to the spot, Brazil star Willian picked up the ball and walked over to his new team-mate.

The winger offered Higuain the penalty who, surprisingly, refused. The pair embraced before Willian walked over to the penalty spot to place the ball.


The Brazilian made no mistake and coolly convert the penalty to put the hosts 1-0 up.

Osinbajo reveals persons Buhari will jail.

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, insisted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will jail more corrupt Nigerians if re-elected.

Osinbajo spoke on Sunday during his house-to-house campaign in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State.

He said grand corruption, which plagued the 16 years administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contributed to the lack of infrastructure for Nigerians.


Osinbajo proclaimed the Buhari-led APC government would focus on jobs for youths, power and providing enough resources to financially empower petty traders and business owners.

“The difference between us and the PDP is that we don’t steal government resources. We use it for the people. We earn less and we spend more on the welfare of people than the previous government.

FG warns US, UK, EU over criticism on CJN suspension.

Saturday, January 26, in Abuja.  The new acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Muhammed Tanko appointed and swore in 250 members of the general elections tribunal.
He urged the new appointees to carry out their duties dignity, integrity and the fear of God.

Justice Onnoghen: Nigerian lawyers object, gives Buhari 7 days to reverse suspension.

Nigerian lawyers under the shield of Coalition Of Lawyers Against Corruption in Nigeria, COLAC, has given President Muhammadu Buhari seven days to reinstate the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen.

COLAC said by this singular act, President Buhari has demonstrated that he does not have any regard for the Supreme law of the land which is the constitution.

The CJN was suspended yesterday by President Buhari who said that he acted on an order by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

Gunnar Solskjaer says Paul Pogba is back in consideration for captaincy duties at Manchester United four months after being stripped of the role by Jose Mourinho.

“He is a leader,” Solskjaer told a news conference on Friday. “He’s a character, he influences people and you’ve seen the videos from France. He cares and he really wants to be successful.

Mourinho told Pogba in September he would no longer be considered for the armband but caretaker boss Solskjaer has reversed the decision.

Ibrahim Chaibou was handed a life ban for bribery and match-fixing by FIFA.

The 52-year-old referee was the centre referee when Nigeria hosted Argentina in June 2011 Ibrahim Chaibou, Niger referee, was on Thursday, January 25, slammed with a life ban for bribery and match-fixing by FIFA.
The world’s football’s governing body, FIFA, also slammed a 177,000 euros (about $226,000) fine on the 52-year-old Chaibou who is also barred from engaging in a football-related activities for life.

“Mr Chaibou has been banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level,” a statement from FIFA’s independent Ethics Committee read in part.

Chaibou famously awarded several spot-kicks in a 2010 friendly game between South Africa and Guatemala which sparked an official probe.
At the last count, Chaibou’s career were key to revealing how international matches were manipulated for betting scams, forcing FIFA to change the rules for selecting referees after exposing convicted match-fixer Wilson Perumal.

They also stated clearly that the government is yet to address the issue of renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement in its new offer made to the union on Monday. This was stated by the President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi in a bulletin he sent to branches of the union.

Ogunyemi said: “At the meeting held on January 21, 2019 between the union and government agents (the Minister of Labour and Employment and Representatives of relevant government agencies), government improved its earlier offer.”

“However, government has failed to address the crucial issues of funding for the revitalisation of public universities in Nigeria and renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement."

AS Monaco have sacked Thierry Henry after just 20 matches, with the club sitting in the relegation zone with 17 games remaining.

The name being linked with the job is Leonardo Jardim, the man who occupied the position before being dismissed after a poor start to the Ligue 1 campaign.

Buhari, also, insisted he would try his all to convince the Federal Executive Council members to approve the project.

The president said the promise Amaechi made was not tabled to the FEC, insisting that it would have been proper to get approval from FEC before making it public.

He said: “Amaechi has made you people a promise and I don’t know how to fulfil it. But I can see how I will fulfil it by getting the Federal Executive Council members to approve it"

Oby Ezekwesili pull-out from presidential race, gives reasons

Thursday sees Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, pull-out  from the presidential race to help build a coalition to defeat the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 16, 2019 election.


In a statement issued by her campaign spokesperson Ozioma Ubabukoh, Ezekwesili was quoted as saying that her decision to withdraw from the race followed extensive discussions with Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora.

In addition to that, the action was also prompted by an examination of the country’s electoral environment sequel to the 2019 presidential debate on Saturday, January 19, 2019.


“This decision followed extensive consultations with leaders from various walks of life across the country over the past few days. I deem it necessary for me to focus on helping to build a veritable coalition to ensure a viable alternative to the #APCPDP in the forthcoming elections,” the statement read.

Nigeria Police Deny Dino Melaye Freedom Despite Meeting Bail Conditions.

The embattled Senator representing Kogi west, Dino Melaye has not been granted freedom by the Nigeria police in Abuja despite meeting bail conditions.

Dino Melaye was arrested at his residence in Abuja as a suspect in a homicide investigation.

The Maitama Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday added Dino Melaye bail with stringent conditions to allow him access to his doctors after the senator said he has been ill since he was arrested on January 4.

The Kogi West senator with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party has denied involvement in the murder of the deceased, which occurred in his state, Kogi state in 2018.

The Nigeria police also said Mr. Melaye is involved in the killing of Danjuma Saliu, a police officer, in Kogi State who was shot in a fracas in July 2018.

These allegations and fresh ones being filed against the senator were cited by police sources as the grounds for disregarding the court order for the senator’s freedom on health grounds.

Arsenal FC has finally identified Juventus goal keeper Emil Audero as a long-term replacement for Cech.

Metro UK reports that Arsenal are willing to sign Audero to provide competition for Leno at Emirates.

Audero, who has impressed so far this season, is currently on loan at Sampdoria from Juventus.

Juventus player Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday 22nd of January 2019, accepted a 23-month prison sentence to settle his tax fraud case.

This is coming after Ronaldo missed a second-half penalty kick during his side’s 3-0 victory over Chievo in the Serie A encounter on Monday night.

Ronaldo was convicted for evading payment of tax on image rights worth over £12million during his time at Real madrid between 2011 and 2014.

Senate adjourns plenary over lack of quorum.

The Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary to Wednesday after few  minutes of sitting over lack of quorum.

Senate sitting on Tuesday  was attended by five Senators out of 109 and after the opening prayers by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, Senator Olushola Adeyeye moved for adjournment.

Adeyeye notified the house that it was not normal in parliamentary practice for sitting to take place when a quorum was not formed.

“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, you can see that we have not formed a quorum. So, I want to move for adjournment to Wednesday. I so moved. ”

Seconding the motion, Senate Deputy Minority leader, Emmanuel Bwacha said the adjournment was appropriate, and the motion was adopted by the Senate President.
