EPL: Chelsea Coach, Sarri Reveals How Chelsea Defeated Tottenham 2-0.

Chelsea cosch, Maurizio Sarri has explained why his side defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Premier League on Wednesday night. Goal from Pedro and an own goal from Keiran Trippler gave the blues three points against the Spur's at Stamford bridge.

According to Sarri, Chelsea won against Tottenham because his players asked him “to press a little bit lower” against the visitors.

“At the beginning of the match, we pressed really very high,” Sarri said at post-match, Metro UK reports.

“We recovered 10 balls in the opposing half. Then it was really very difficult for us because we played 120 minutes three days ago, so the players asked me to press a little bit lower.

“Of course I agreed because they defended really very well.

“But we defended very well in the final as well against City. In the match against Malmo, in the last three matches, we’ve defended very well with a level of application and attention higher than before.

Atiku Rejects Presidential Election Results, Seeks Redress In Court.

The presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, and the main opposition of President elect Muhammadu Buhari today rejected the outcome of February 23rd polls and seek redress in court.

Real Madrid, Courtois Named Best Goalkeeper, De Gea Fails To Make List.

Real Madrid goalkeeper, Courtois, has been named Best Goalkeeper of 2018, by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Thibaut Courtois was listed ahead of Tottenham’s Hotspur Hugo Lloris, while Gianluigi Buffon of Paris Saint-Germain came third in the list.

His Real Madrid teammate, Keylor Navas came fourth, while Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen were joint fifth.

Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea did not make the list, as his name did not appear in the top five.

According to the IFFHS, football experts from 90 countries took part in the voting process, that saw the 26-year-old Belgium international, Courtois eceive 181 votes.

Lloris came second with 109 votes, and Buffon came third with 59 votes.

La Liga: Lionel Messi Makes History Again, as Barcelona Defeat Sevilla.

Argentine international and Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, on Saturday 23rd of Feburary 2019, made history in his clubside’s 4-2 win over Sevilla in the La Liga encounter at the Estadio Ramon Stadium.

Three goals from Lionel Messi and a goal from Luis Suarez gave the Spanish giant all three points against Sevilla.

However, a goal from Jesus Navas and Gabriel Mercado was not enough to give the hosts a point against the Catalan club.

According to Barcablaugranes, Messi’s hat-trick against Sevilla means the Argentine captain has now scored 50 hat-tricks in his career for club (44) and country (6).

The result has shown Barcelona move 10 points clear ahead of second-placed, Atletico Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.

Nigerian celebrity, Olubankole Wellington, popularly recognised as Banky W, has described the election process as smooth and peaceful.

Bankole, a candidate of Modern Democracy Party, contesting for the House of Representative, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state, voted at Polling unit 016, at the Lagos State Model school, Marwa, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos state.

He said: However, that the process was stressful.
“Apart from the fact that voters arrived as early as 6:30 am, voting did not begin until 11:00 am and ended at 5:30 pm.

“However, I want to commend members of the community who conducted themselves in orderly manner.

“The INEC officials arrived late at the venue, but we organised ourselves as a community and put in place a process that will make the exercise smooth. “

NAN reports that voting ended at Polling unit 016 at 5:30 pm, while sorting and counting of ballot papers started at 6:00 pm and was ongoing at the time of filing this report.

Election Violence: INEC To Reschedule Election In Rivers, Lagos and Anambra States.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Saturday 23rd of Feburary 2019, said that it would reschedule elections in some parts of Rivers, Anambra and Lagos States where there were cases of violence and ballot box snatching.

The commission which specifically stated the National Assembly elections in Rivers State, also acknowledged the challenges of smart card readers, saying they have been resolved.

INEC Commissioner and chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, while giving an update on the ongoing elections, said where the malfunctioning of smart card readers were not resolved before the closing of elections, voting will continue the next day.

He said, “We received reports of violence and ballot box snatching which took place in Akokotoro and Bonny LGAs in Rivers State; and some parts of Lagos and Anambra states.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended the voting period for the 2019 Presidential elections.

This was made known in an official statement signed by Festus Okoye, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC, on Saturday.

The electoral officials extended voting time by the amount of lost hours at polling units where electoral process did not begin at the scheduled time of 8am.

Chelsea coach, Maurizio Sarri, has been offered an easy pass by Roma to quit Chelsea FC - La Repubblica reports.

Sarri was the target of angry fans on Monday night, as they were kicked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Chants of “f*** Sarriball” could be heard around the ground during the second half of the match.

Maurizio is understood to be under huge pressure at Chelsea and could even lose his job as soon as Sunday, if his team are defeated by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Cristiano Ronaldo, has made a statement on his club’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter on Wednesday night.

Maurizio Sarri Talks On Getting Sacked After FA Cup Defeat, slams Chelsea Fans.

Chelsea manager, Sarri, has insisted he is not worried about getting sacked, following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday night.

EPL: Arsene Wenger Reveals Ozil's Problem Under Emery.

Arsene Wenger has suggested Arsenal’s decision to give Mesut Ozil a long-term contract may have left the player in a “comfort zone”.

The english club handed Ozil a deal until 2021 last January amid rumours that he would follow Alexis Sanchez out.

Former Chelsea striker, Chris Sutton, has stated that the club will ‘sack’ caoch, Maurizio Sarri before the end of this week.

Sutton stated this following Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup clash on Monday night.

The ex-England international believes that Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United will be Sarri’s last game at Stamford Bridge.

“This is Maurizio Sarri’s last game at Chelsea. He won’t survive. He’s done.

Chelsea coach, Maurizio Sarri has blamed his players for their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup encounter played on Monday night.

Sarri blamed his players for playing a “confused” football against Manchester United.

He said: “I think that, with the result, we were unlucky,” Sarri was quoted by Metro UK as saying at post-match.

President Muhammadu Buhari showed his disappointment at INEC for postponing the elections few hours to the predetermined date.

UPDATE: INEC Reschedules Presidential And NASS Elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced delay of the Presidential and National Assembly elections earlier scheduled for today (Saturday) by one week.

Also, the commission has also rescheduled the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, February 23, 2019 while the governorship, State Houses of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory Area Council election polls earlier fixed for March 2nd, 2019 would now be conducted on Saturday, March 9 2019.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who read a statement by 2:50 am on Saturday morning attributed the decision to logistic reasons, but refused to entertain any question.

INEC Delay Nigeria's General Elections Till Feburary 23.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has decided to postpone Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections till next week - 23rd of February, 2019.

It was one of the decisions reached early today in a crucial meeting between INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu and 12 national commissioners in Abuja, according to reliable sources close to the meeting.

Professor Yakubu will be briefing the media later today on the decision taken, amidst reports of logistics problems faced by INEC.

The meeting, which began Friday evening, was still in progress up till 1.30 a.m on Saturday.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to the INEC chairman told newsmen that the decision of the meeting will be communicated later today and that some decision about the election had been reached.

Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to INEC’s chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has informed the newsmen that the commission has taken a decision after a crucial meeting attended by the chairman and 12 national commissioners.

Top officials of the commission had, previously gone into a crucial meeting at INEC headquarters, in respect of concerns that some electoral materials needed for the election were destroyed in some states while also, some available electoral materials were yet to get to some other states.

As a result of the crucial meeting, fears were and are still being nursed in some quarters as to the fate of the election as the situation keeps directing to a possible postponement of the election.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,  Atiku Abubakar, has said his political ambition is not worth the life of any Nigerian.

Abubakar, who spoke at the final signing of the National Peace Accord at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, adduced former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 speech, highlighting the importance of a free and credible elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari, and all other available presidential aspirant, emphasized the call for free and fair elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalami Atiku (retd.),  also called on the security agents and all other personnel involved at the polls to remain neutral and fair  during the electoral process on February 16 and March 2.

“I am making a special appeal to our young people: Do not allow yourselves to be used to cause violence,” he told the audience at the event. “Please eschew all forms of violence and cooperate with all the relevant agencies during these elections.”

President Buhari added, “We will vote according to parties, but in the end, the only real party is Nigeria, our country.

“Our elections are important only to the extent that they make her strong. Let us do our best and ask God to bless us and our country.”

Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal midfielder will rise to the position of the second best paid - player at Juventus, when he officially joins the Serie A champions this summer, BBC reports.

FC Nantes To Retire Shirt Number 9 In Honour Of Emiliano Sala.

FC Nantes has revealed that the club has concluded on a decision to retire shirt no. 9 in honour of Emiliano Sala which will serve as a mark of respect to the Argentine striker after his body was recovered from a plane wreckage he was travelling on that crashed on its way to Cardiff.

ASUU Supends Nation Wide strike, Issues Warning To Members.

The Academic Staff union of Universities  declared that there 4 month old strike has come to an end after there negotiations have  been favorably considered.

The Independent National Electoral Committee has stated that it is not possible for anyone to use the identification number on Permanent Voters' Card (PVCs) to compromise the smart card readers on the general elections day.

The chairman of INEC Yakubu Mahmood, stated this at a forum tagged, “Women National Dialogue with INEC Chairman”, organised by European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) with INEC yesterday, Wednesday 6th of feburary 2019, in Abuja.

The Chairman said this in response to allegations that some party agents were collecting PVCs identification numbers in exchange for money.

He continued saying: there was no way any individual could compromise the integrity of the process by knowing the voters identification number of the electorate.

UPDATE: ASUU, FG Set To Hold A Conciliatory Meeting On Strike Today.

The striking members of the Academic Staff union of Universities and the Federal Government of Nigeria are set to meet today the 7th of Feburary in respect of the ongoing strike which was started in November 2018.

Both parties are expected to hold another meeting today, thursday to resolve issues which actually led to the strike.

According to ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, he said after the union's last meeting with the Ministry of Labour and employment, they concluded to resume talks about the on going strike today.

He stated that at the end of their meeting they concluded to meet with their members to discuss the Federal Government new position on the union's demands before taking any position on the F.G offers.
