FG declares Wednesday May 1 public holiday.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 1, as public holiday to celebrate the 2019 Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Lt.- Gen. (Rted) Abdulrahman Dambazau,  made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Nigerian workers on their commitment and sacrifice toward building a greater Nigeria.

He made the announcement in a statement issued on Monday, April 29 in Abuja by Mrs Georgina Ehuriah, Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

Dambazau called for continuous support of Nigerian workers in government’s effort at re-buiding the economy and moving it to the Next Level.

He also commended workers’ effort at seeing to the full implementation of the policies and programmes of government through proper and effective service delivery to Nigerians and foreigners.

Dambazau also commended them for keeping faith with the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s resolve of building a better Nigeria.

EPL: Raheem Sterling Emerges As Winner for F.W.A Player of the Year Award.

Raheem Sterling, Manchester City winger has been awarded the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, adding to his PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Sterling was crowned ahead of PFA Player of the Year, Virgil van Dijk, in the voting and his club team-mate, Sergio Aguero.

Sterling has scored 17 goals and assisted in another 10, he has played a prominent role in placing Manchester City on the verge of retaining their Premier League title for the first time.

Other votes included were those for Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Harry Kane, Eden Hazard and Alexandre Lacazette.

Nikita Parris made it a double award and recognition for Manchester City after being named FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year.

She scored a total of 19 goals in 19 games in the Women’s Super League.

Check Out Newly Commissioned Ultra-modern Projects By Akinwumi Ambode-led Lagos State Government.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, April 24, arrived Lagos to commission projects by the Akinwumi Ambode-led government.

The full list of the projects he commissioned in the state are:
 1. Rehabilitated 10-lane Oshodi/Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road,
 2. Lagos State Theatre at Oregun in Ikeja,
3. 170-Bed ‘Ayinke House’ (Maternity Hospital) at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja
4. Multi-level Oshodi Transport Interchange on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
 5. New 820 Mass Transit buses

The governor gave details about the  project that were inaugurated :

The Muritala Muhammed Internatonal Airport Road commissioned today has completely given a facelift to the major gateway into our country.
The Airport Road and the U-Turn Flyover will be opened for public use immediately while the two Flyovers will be open for public use from May 10th, after the completion of the quality assurance test.

EPL: Sarri speaks on Chelsea chances in top four after 2-0 defeat at Liverpool

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has acknowledged that it would be hard for his side to finish in the English Premier League top four this season.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were enough for the Reds, who returned to the top of the table.

The defeat at Anfield has left Chelsea fourth in the Premier League table, but they could be overhauled by both Arsenal and Manchester United if they win all of their games in hand.

When questioned about Chelsea’s top-four chances, Sarri told Sky Sports: “It’s not easy of course but we have to fight to the end.

“It will be very hard for every team in the last month of the season.

LIGUE 1 : Mbappe slams PSG’s team-mates after 5-1 defeat to Lille

Paris Saint-Germain star, Kylian Mbappe, has called on his team-mates to show more commitment, after they were thrashed 5-1 by Lille on Sunday.

The French champions went on to concede four times in the second half for their heaviest league defeat under their Qatari owners.

The defeat delayed their Ligue 1 title triumph by another week.

PSG will be crowned Winners on Wednesday, if they defeat Nantes. They have secured 81 points after 31 games, while  second-placed Lille’s 64 after 32 games.

“It was a box-to-box game, some moments we were in control, some moments we were not.

“We’re going to be champions but we cannot lose like this.

“It’s not normal. We lack personality, it’s one of our flaws, we have to correct this. We played like debutants,” Mbappe told Canal Plus.

EPL: Paul Scholes names four players Man United shouldn't renew their contracts.

Mata, Herrera, Valencia and Darmian’s contracts will expire at the end of the season and former Manchester United star,  Paul Scholes urged the club not to renew their terms.

He  also urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side not to allow midfielder, Paul Pogba, leave Old Trafford amid interest from Real Madrid.

The ex- midfielder shared his thoughts following Man United’s 2-1 victory over West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

When asked if Man United should renew the contracts of Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian this summer, Scholes told BT Sport: “None of them.

“I think there was a time going back a few years, when if United lost a player, no matter how big a player it was. Whether it was David Beckham, Roy Keane, Cristiano [Ronaldo] at times. It didn’t matter, it really didn’t matter.”

He added, “But at this point now, if you’re losing Paul Pogba. He gets some stick for his inconsistency, we know that, but he’s still scored 15 goals this season.

EPL: Klopp picks out one player for praise, reveals why Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-0

Jurgen Klopp, has hailed his explosive  forward, Salah as ‘world class’ after the Egyptian fire the Reds back to the top of the English Premier League table on Sunday evening.

Senegalese star, Sadio Mane put the Reds ahead in the 50th minute, before Salah hit a stunning goal past Chelsea moments later.

Klopp told Sky Sports, “It was a brilliant goal – world-class. A really, really, good goal from our side. It was a brilliant goal in all departments.

“It blew me away. Today was very, very important because Chelsea are so strong. What we did to win that game was amazing. We have closed the slipping book.

Champions League: De Gea issues a rallying yell to Manchester United ahead of Barcelona trip

Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, has rallied his team-mates that they must improve against Barcelona in the Champions League.

United travel to Barcelona on Tuesday, with  1-0 defeat in the quarter-final tie and battling for form, following their unimpressive Premier League 2-1 victory against West Ham.

 De Gea issued a stern warning ahead of the Camp Nou Showdown, after United failed to pick a shot on target at home to Barcelona in the opening leg.

“Of course it’s difficult, but if you want to be a top team you have to play big Champions League games, and the weekend after it’s the Premier League.

“So you have to be focused and ready for a difficult game again. I think we didn’t play well [against West Ham], we have to improve a lot and now we have a big challenge on Tuesday.

“We will try to fight and win the game. We can go with more confidence after the three points.

Smalling: Stopping Messi is a challenge to relish

Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling is looking forward to coming face-to-face with Barcelona star Lionel Messi on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

"[Stopping Messi ] is a challenge to relish," said Smalling .

"This season I have been lucky enough to face [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Kylian] Mbappe. They are challenges I relish and players at this club relish, and I say bring it on."
